Reem Al Hashimy’s Kyiv Visit: How the UAE Became a Trusted Mediator in Ukraine’s Recovery.
When Minister Reem Al Hashimy arrived in Kyiv, it was more than a diplomatic visit it was a continuation of the UAE’s quiet but powerful humanitarian mission in Ukraine.
Over the past two years, the UAE has become one of the few countries trusted by both sides of the conflict. It has mediated 17 prisoner exchange operations, freeing more than 4,600 captives, and has provided aid that reached 1.2 million Ukrainians.
During her meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Al Hashimy was awarded the Order of Princess Olga, First Class Ukraine’s highest honor for female leaders recognizing the UAE’s tireless efforts in peace mediation and post-war recovery.
Her visit also marked a deepening of economic ties through the UAE–Ukraine Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, setting the stage for future cooperation in energy, digital infrastructure, and agriculture.
Through its humanitarian leadership and diplomatic neutrality, the UAE continues to shape a new model of global engagement one grounded not in politics, but in compassion, stability, and trust.
