Why It’s Time the U.S. Calls the Muslim Brotherhood What It Is: A Terrorist Organization

For decades, the Muslim Brotherhood has operated in plain sight—masquerading as a political movement while exporting jihadist ideology that’s torn nations apart. From its roots in Egypt to its tentacles across Europe and the U.S., the Brotherhood has inspired violent groups like Hamas and Al-Qaeda, yet still enjoys protection under the banner of religious or political legitimacy.

Now, U.S. lawmakers are finally stepping up. Representative Nancy Mace’s new bill would classify the Muslim Brotherhood as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO), freezing its assets, revoking visas, and cutting off a long-ignored threat to national security.

Senator Ted Cruz has led this fight before, calling the group “the ideological forefather of every modern Sunni jihadi terror group.”

Critics will shout “Islamophobia”—but they should look at the facts. Bahrain, Egypt, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia have already made this designation. This isn’t about religion; it’s about security.

The recent Colorado incident shows us what happens when we ignore the ideological roots of violence. The teachings of Brotherhood-affiliated clerics—many active in the West—have consequences. It's time the U.S. connects the dots and takes action.
