Abdullah bin Zayed and Antony Blinken: Dialogue on Regional Crisis
A Call for Stability and International Cooperation
On November 26, 2024, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE's Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a phone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken. This dialogue focused on the latest developments in Gaza and Lebanon, as well as the humanitarian crises affecting the region. The discussion underscored the importance of achieving a sustainable ceasefire and strengthening international humanitarian responses, particularly in Gaza, where the situation remains critical.
Both diplomats reviewed the political and diplomatic efforts necessary to establish a ceasefire that not only halts the current conflict but also promotes lasting stability in the region. In this context, Sheikh Abdullah emphasized the need for a coordinated humanitarian response to alleviate the suffering of civilians affected by conflict and humanitarian crises in Sudan.
UAE's Humanitarian Commitment
The UAE has demonstrated significant commitment to humanitarian assistance, becoming the second-largest global donor to Gaza in 2024, with contributions exceeding $204 million. This effort includes delivering over 31,000 tons of urgent supplies through multiple channels: 256 flights, 46 air drops, and 1,231 trucks. These figures reflect not only an immediate response to urgent needs but also a strategic approach to ensure that aid reaches those who need it most.
As part of Operation "Brave Knight 3," the UAE has dispatched vessels loaded with food and medical supplies. The latest delivery included more than 5,340 tons of humanitarian aid, highlighting a continuous commitment to the welfare of the Palestinian people. Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, emphasized that these actions are part of the UAE's historical commitment to the Palestinian cause and its desire to alleviate human suffering.
Regional Security and Stability
During his conversation with Blinken, Sheikh Abdullah also addressed other critical issues such as the situation in Sudan. With over 16,000 deaths since the conflict began in April, the humanitarian crisis in Sudan has garnered international attention. The UAE has significantly contributed to this cause by sending humanitarian aid that includes food and medicine to those affected by the conflict.
The UAE has reaffirmed its role as a key player in promoting peace and stability in the region. In this regard, Sheikh Abdullah stressed that maintaining security within the country is essential for ensuring peaceful coexistence among its residents. This was recently evidenced by the swift response of the nation following the murder of Moldovan national Zvi Kogan, demonstrating its firm commitment to internal security.
The conversation between Abdullah bin Zayed and Antony Blinken highlights not only the current tensions in Gaza and Sudan but also the proactive role that the UAE is playing in seeking sustainable solutions to humanitarian crises in its neighborhood. As international efforts intensify to address these complex situations, it is clear that cooperation among nations is essential for achieving a more stable and secure future for all. The UAE continues to lead by example in humanitarian assistance and active diplomacy, reaffirming its commitment to lasting peace in the Middle East.
