Trump Receives Rousing Welcome at RNC After Shooting Incident

Delegates Show Solidarity and Determination Despite Attack

Former President Donald Trump received an enthusiastic and emotional welcome from delegates at the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, just days after being the target of an apparent assassination attempt at a campaign rally.

Despite the shocking incident, which left Trump injured but recovering, the energy and defiance in the air was palpable as delegates repeatedly expressed a sense of mission and solidarity with the former president.

“It was just so surreal,” said Brandon Maly, the chair of the Republican Party of Dane County and an RNC delegate. “The first thing I wanted to make sure was that President Trump looked okay.” Maly said he was shocked and saddened by what the Secret Service is investigating as an assassination attempt, but emphasized the importance of keeping things “nonviolent” and channeling emotions into productive efforts to get Trump re-elected.

Other delegates, such as Donna Williams, the Wake County Republican Party Chair, echoed Maly’s sentiments, expressing confidence in the heightened security measures in place and a determination to show their support for Trump. “It’s going to be off the charts. It’s going to be wild,” said Sandy Fortenberry, the President of the Western Wake Republican Club, describing the anticipated reaction to Trump’s return to the stage.

As the convention got underway, Trump himself appeared overcome with emotion, leading the crowd in chants of “USA, USA, USA” and expressing his gratitude for the outpouring of support. Delegates and attendees alike are expected to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to Trump and his vision for the country, despite the recent attack.
